Approach your birth with calm and confidence.

Pregnancy and childbirth are the most intimate and transformative experiences in a woman’s life and should be prepared for as such. You’ve planned all the details from the crib sheets to the car seat to the diaper brand. Now it’s time to focus on how your baby will meet you Earth-side. The power to make informed decisions backed by evidence-based research leaves you in control of your body and your baby, so that you can give birth your way.

I offer group childbirth education classes in-person at various locations in Northern Virginia and via Zoom for families all over the United States. I teach an evidence-based curriculum designed to educate, inform, and empower parents to make choices that are right for your unique family. The purpose of this curriculum is to inform parents of what labor looks like at different stages, coping and comfort measures during labor, common interventions used in hospital settings, options you have as they pertain to you and your baby’s care, establishing birth preferences, the transition into postpartum, and an introduction to breastfeeding. I am also a Professional Member of Evidence Based Birth, giving my childbirth education students an enhanced experience with access to tons of online resources.

A standard childbirth education class is held over four weeks, lasting three hours per session. I also offer condensed versions of this class periodically or at the request of my clients. The full series is outlined below.

Class One: Birth culture, your birth goals, choosing a provider, nutrition and health, anatomy and physiology of childbirth, the stages of labor, due dates, and what is “evidence-based care”?

Class Two: labor comfort measures, labor coping techniques, breathing techniques and practice, unmedicated pain management techniques, laboring at home, the hospital, and birth center, making the most of pushing, suggestions for the birth partner, use of a doula

Class Three: Shared decision making, informed consent, 3rd trimester medical interventions, medical interventions in labor, labor with an epidural, medical inductions, family centered cesareans, writing your birth preferences

Class Four: choosing a pediatrician, newborn procedures, recovery in the hospital/birth center/home, settling in at home, “the fourth trimester”, life with your newborn, the physical and mental recovery after birth, preparing for postpartum, getting established with breastfeeding

Childbirth education classes are best recommended for the second and third trimesters.

Please see the Investments page for condensed class offerings and further details.
